Diamond Pet Foods has issued a voluntary recall affecting the eastern part of the United States. The diets recalled have the following date codes of Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hairball cat: RAF0501A22X 18lb., RAF0501A2X 6 lb., RAF0802B12X 18lb (BB30FEB11), RAH0501A22X 18 lb., RAH0501A2X 6lb. The date of manufacture is May 28, 2009 and August 30, 2009.

This recall is being issued as these foods were found to be deficient in thiamine. Symptoms of affected pets would be neurological in nature. Symptoms may include wobbly walking or muscle weakness, paralysis of the hindlimbs, seizures, ventroflexion (bending towards the floor) of the neck, and abnormal eye movement called nystagmus.

Wysong has issued a notice for two of their dog food brands.

Wysong Maintenace dog food lots: 090617, 090624, 090706, 090720, and 090817

Wysong Senior dog food lot: 090629

Mold has been found in some bags of Wysong dry extruded dog foods manufactured in June, July and August of 2009. No problems have been found or reported in any other Wysong food product.

Nutro has recalled their Nutro Ultra Puppy Food in 4.5-pound packages, bar code 79105 51313; Nutro Natural Choice: Chicken Meal, Rice and Oatmeal Formula Small Bites Puppy food in 5-pound packages, bar code 79105 23050, from PetSmart stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas; Nutro Ultra Puppy food in 30-pound packages, bar code 79105 51315, from Petco stores in California, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah. All have a Best by Date of 09/10/10.

Nutro issued this notice upon discovery of melted plastic in the food. The source of the plastic was identified as a worker’s “bump cap,” similar to a hard hat, which inadvertently made its way into the manufacturing process.
