Screening for Hip Dysplasia

We encourage owners of at risk breeds (such as Retrievers, Shepherds and Rottweilers among others) to screen their pets for hip dysplasia. The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals is one of the most accurate test establishments for evaluation of hip dysplasia. They allow pet owners to obtain an estimate of their dog’s risk for developing degenerative joint disease (arthritis) and, if necessary, make lifestyle adjustments to enhance the quality of their pet’s life.

It helps owners of working dogs select the individuals most likely to withstand the rigors of training for such fields as agility, field trial and police work. Breeders will use these resources to identify and choose dogs for breeding that have the best breeding potential.
